Coût de Protonthérapie à l'étranger (2026)
Proton beam therapy treats tumours with protons that stop at a set depth, so less radiation reaches tissue beyond the tumour. It is used for cancers near critical structures and for many childhood cancers.

À propos de Protonthérapie
Protons deposit most of their energy at the end of their path, known as the Bragg peak, so the dose can be fitted to the tumour with little exit dose. Planning uses CT and MRI and a custom mask or cushion. Treatment is given daily on weekdays over several weeks, with each visit taking around 30 to 60 minutes, of which the beam itself is only a few minutes.
The main advantage is reducing radiation to healthy tissue, which matters most for tumours at the skull base, spine, eye and for children, in whom late effects are a concern. Control of the cancer depends on tumour type, stage and dose, and for many common cancers the benefit over modern photon radiotherapy is still being studied.
Courses commonly last four to eight weeks, so plan accommodation near the centre for the whole period, and ask about the schedule and whether a carer can accompany you. Bring all imaging and reports. Arrange blood tests, scans and follow-up with your oncologist at home after treatment finishes.
Généralement adapté si
- Tumours at the skull base, near the spinal cord, eye or brain, and many childhood cancers, where sparing nearby tissue matters.
- A radiation oncologist has recommended proton therapy over standard photon radiation.
- Able to lie still, or to be sedated for children, and to stay for the full course.
Il peut falloir attendre si
- Tumours that are widely spread may not suit localised radiation.
- Previous radiation to the same area may limit further dose.
- Metal implants near the target or inability to lie still can affect planning.
Comment se préparer
- Bring scans, pathology and operative reports; proton centres often need full records to approve treatment.
- Expect a planning scan visit and fitting of a mask or immobilisation device before the first session.
- Ask your doctor whether markers or spacers are required, and about adjusting blood thinners.
- Arrange accommodation near the centre for the whole course, along with a companion.
- For children, ask about play preparation and sedation arrangements.
Questions à poser à votre chirurgien
- Why is proton therapy better than photon radiation for my tumour?
- What dose and how many sessions are planned?
- Which organs will be spared and what side effects remain possible?
- How is tumour motion or position change handled during treatment?
- Will I need chemotherapy or surgery as well?
- How will follow-up scans be arranged once I am home?
Signaux d'alerte à surveiller en comparant les hôpitaux
- Proton therapy is promoted as better for every cancer, without evidence for yours.
- No clear radiation oncologist or physicist is responsible for your plan.
- Treatment starts without full imaging and a documented dose plan.
- No follow-up plan or sharing of reports with your home doctors.
