About Thread Lift (PDO / Silhouette)

Under local anaesthesia, fine threads are inserted through tiny entry points and anchored so they gently reposition tissue. Barbed or coned threads grip the skin, while smooth PDO threads mainly stimulate collagen. The procedure takes under an hour, and the threads dissolve over several months while the lifting effect is supported by new collagen.

The lift is subtle and the effect is temporary, usually lasting around one to two years depending on thread type, age and skin quality. Results are less dramatic than a facelift and do not suit heavy sagging. Dimpling, asymmetry or thread visibility can occur, and an experienced injector reduces these risks.

Mild bruising, tenderness and tightness last a few days to a week. Plan two or three days near the clinic for any adjustment, and avoid dental work, strong facial movements and facials for a couple of weeks. Sleeping on your back and keeping the area clean helps healing.

Usually a good fit if

  • You have mild to moderate sagging of the cheeks, jowls or brows.
  • Your skin still has reasonable elasticity.
  • You want a modest improvement with little downtime.
  • You are in good health.

May need to wait if

  • Severe skin laxity or heavy jowls, which need surgical lifting.
  • Active skin infection, autoimmune disease or a tendency to keloid scarring.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Blood-thinning therapy that cannot be paused on medical advice.
How to prepare
  1. Tell your doctor about allergies, skin infections, autoimmune disease, keloid scarring and pregnancy.
  2. Review blood thinners, aspirin, fish oil and supplements with your doctor before treatment.
  3. Avoid alcohol and anti-inflammatory medicines for the days your clinician advises.
  4. Come without make-up and plan a few quieter social days afterwards.
  5. Ask about the thread type and brand and where the threads are made.
Questions to ask your surgeon
  1. What type of thread do you recommend for me, and why?
  2. How many threads will you place, and where?
  3. How long will the lift last and when will I need to repeat it?
  4. What are the risks of dimpling, thread visibility or asymmetry?
  5. What should I avoid doing after treatment, such as dental work or facial massage?
  6. What can be done at home if a thread causes a problem?
Red flags when comparing hospitals
  • Claims that threads give results equal to a facelift.
  • Unbranded threads or no information on thread material.
  • Treatment by someone without medical qualifications.
  • No assessment of your anatomy or discussion of risks.

Questions about Thread Lift (PDO / Silhouette) abroad

Which country is cheapest for Thread Lift (PDO / Silhouette)?

The lowest typical hospital prices are in India ($2,488), Thailand ($3,020), Turkey ($3,425), out of 9 countries we compare.

How long do thread lifts last?

The effect often lasts about 12 to 18 months, although it varies. The threads dissolve in around six to twelve months, and collagen supports the lift.

Is it painful?

Numbing injections make the procedure tolerable. You may feel tightness and tenderness for a few days.

Can threads be removed?

Dissolvable threads cannot easily be removed, though problems can often be treated. Ask your clinician how issues are handled.

Is a thread lift the same as a facelift?

No. It offers a modest, temporary lift with little downtime, while a facelift removes skin and repositions deeper tissue for a longer-lasting result.
