About Mini Face Lift

Incisions are placed in front of or around the ear, sometimes extending slightly into the hairline. The deeper tissue layer, known as the SMAS, is tightened and excess skin is trimmed, which gives a more lasting effect than pulling skin alone. Local anaesthesia with sedation is common, and techniques vary, including short-scar and lifting-suture methods.

The effect is a subtler lift of the jawline and cheeks, not a full rejuvenation of the neck. Results depend on skin quality, the degree of sagging and surgeon technique, and they last several years rather than permanently since ageing continues. People with heavy neck laxity may need a full facelift or neck lift to get the result they want.

Swelling and bruising ease over one to two weeks, and sutures are usually removed within about ten days. Plan to stay near the surgeon for the first week and avoid flying until you are cleared. Stop smoking beforehand, arrange help at home, and bring a high pillow for sleeping upright.

Usually a good fit if

  • You have early jowls and mild to moderate sagging along the jawline.
  • Your skin has some elasticity and your bone structure is good.
  • You want a subtle change and accept that it does not address a heavy neck.
  • You are in good health and do not smoke.

May need to wait if

  • Heavy neck laxity or deep folds that need a full facelift or neck lift.
  • Active smoking or untreated high blood pressure.
  • Bleeding disorders or poorly controlled diabetes.
  • Expecting dramatic change or treatment of the forehead and eyes.
How to prepare
  1. Review blood thinners, aspirin, anti-inflammatories and supplements with your doctor; do not stop any medicine on your own.
  2. Stop smoking and nicotine for the period your surgeon advises, because it harms healing of the facial skin.
  3. Have blood tests and a medical check-up, including blood pressure control if you take medication.
  4. Wash your hair the day before and pack front-opening clothing and a scarf or cap.
  5. Arrange a companion and plan to stay near the clinic for at least a week.
Questions to ask your surgeon
  1. Is a mini lift enough for my face, or will a full facelift or neck lift give a better result?
  2. Which layer will you lift, and where will my scars sit?
  3. Will you use drains, and when are they and the stitches removed?
  4. How do you protect the facial nerve, and how often does temporary weakness occur?
  5. When can I wash my hair and wear make-up?
  6. How long do results last, and who do I see at home if I have a concern?
Red flags when comparing hospitals
  • A promise of results equal to a full facelift from a limited incision.
  • No discussion of facial nerve risk or haematoma.
  • A surgeon who cannot show scar results from their own patients.
  • Pressure to book quickly with offers or deadlines.

Questions about Mini Face Lift abroad

Which country is cheapest for Mini Face Lift?

The lowest typical hospital prices are in India ($5,258), Thailand ($6,240), Turkey ($7,518), out of 9 countries we compare.

How long will I stay in hospital for Mini Face Lift?

Most patients spend about 1 nights in hospital. Full recovery takes about 14 days; your surgeon will tell you when you are fit to fly home.

Is a mini lift the same as a lunchtime lift?

No. A mini lift is a surgical procedure with deeper tissue repositioning and stitches, and it requires real recovery time. Non-surgical options do not lift tissue in the same way.

Will I have visible scars?

Scars are placed in front of and around the ear and in the hairline. They are usually faint after several months, although they take time to mature.

How long will it last?

Results often last around five to ten years, though ageing continues. The benefits depend on skin quality, genetics and lifestyle.

What is the risk of nerve injury?

Temporary weakness in a branch of the facial nerve is uncommon but possible and usually improves. Permanent injury is rare. Choose an experienced surgeon and ask them to explain.
