Thailand medical visa

Thailand issues a dedicated Non-Immigrant MT (Medical Treatment) visa — 90 days, extendable once for another 90. A Tourist Visa (60 days) or visa-on-arrival (30 days) can cover short cosmetic or dental work, but anything surgical or requiring staged follow-up should use the MT category. Family attendants get the MT-A category.

Insider tip

Bangkok and Phuket have the densest medical-tourism infrastructure. If your procedure needs staged rehab, explicitly request the MT-A extension during initial application — doing it after arrival through an immigration office takes 7-14 working days. Avoid the 30-day visa-exempt stamp for surgical travel; extending it is harder than extending an MT.

Common visa questions

Do I need a medical visa for Thailand?

Yes — Thailand requires a Non-Immigrant MT Visa (Medical Treatment) for treatment travel. Processing typically takes 7 working days.

How long does the visa last?

90 days, extendable. Family attendants can be included on related visa categories.

Can family members travel with me?

Yes — most destinations including Thailand issue attendant visas for immediate family travelling with the patient. Relationship documentation is typically required.

What should I prepare before applying?

Get your hospital's invitation letter in writing (not just email), translate civil documents if required, photograph your passport + photos in advance, and have 3-6 months of bank statements ready. Your case manager prepares most of this bundle for you.

Is Medcasts help with the visa included?

Yes — visa invitation letter, documentation checklist, and embassy-appointment coordination are all part of the standard case-manager service. You handle the in-person appointment if one is required; we handle the paperwork bundle.
