Medical travel from Iraq

Years of conflict left Iraq's tertiary hospitals under-resourced even as demand kept rising. Cardiac surgery, cancer care, complex orthopaedics and reconstructive surgery often mean travelling — to India, Turkey, Iran or Lebanon — for faster access, modern equipment and a wider choice of surgeon.

Does your insurer cover treatment abroad?

Send us your insurer's name or policy details. We check with the hospital what may be covered, what is excluded and what pre-authorisation you need — before you travel.

Common questions from Iraq patients.

Where do most Iraqi patients travel for treatment?

India and Turkey are the most common destinations, with Iran and Lebanon also used. We match the destination to your diagnosis, budget and visa access — Turkey is often fastest to reach from Iraq.

Can the government sponsor my treatment?

For certain cases not available domestically, the Ministry of Health referral committee can sponsor treatment abroad. We can prepare the medical documentation that process requires; the decision rests with the committee.

Do I need a visa?

Yes — India and Turkey both issue medical visas, usually with an attendant visa for one accompanying family member. We provide the hospital invitation letter and a document checklist.

What about follow-up when I get home?

You receive a full discharge summary and imaging on disc, and we coordinate remote follow-up with a doctor in Iraq.
