About Thigh Lift

For the inner thigh, the scar usually runs in the groin crease and sometimes down the thigh; an outer or bilateral lift needs a longer scar. The surgeon removes excess skin and fat, fixes the deep tissue to avoid pulling on the scar, and often uses drains. It is performed under general anaesthesia and takes two to four hours.

The thigh shape improves quickly, but scars are long and can widen or stay red for a year. Results depend on skin quality, your weight being stable, and the amount of skin needs removing. Wound healing problems are more common in this area, and smoking raises the risk significantly.

Plan roughly a week to ten days near the clinic for drain removal and wound checks, and expect to need help at home for a few weeks. Wear compression garments as advised and walk often, but avoid stretching your legs wide. Ask about flying, as long journeys raise clot risk.

Usually a good fit if

  • You have loose thigh skin after significant weight loss or ageing.
  • Your weight has been stable for some months.
  • You are in good health and are a non-smoker.
  • You accept long scars in the groin, along the inner thigh, or hips.

May need to wait if

  • Unstable weight or ongoing weight loss.
  • Active smoking, poorly controlled diabetes or poor circulation.
  • A history of blood clots or lymphoedema of the legs.
  • Expecting thin thighs rather than removal of loose skin.
How to prepare
  1. Reach a stable weight for several months, and ideally maintain it after major weight loss.
  2. Review blood thinners, hormonal medicines and supplements with your doctor, and stop smoking as advised.
  3. Have blood tests, an ECG and any nutrition checks your surgeon requests.
  4. Buy compression garments and arrange help at home for the first one to two weeks.
  5. Ask about blood clot prevention for surgery and the flight home.
Questions to ask your surgeon
  1. Which kind of thigh lift do you recommend for me, inner, outer or both?
  2. Where will my scars be and how visible will they be?
  3. Will you use liposuction as well?
  4. How do you reduce the risk of wound separation near the groin?
  5. Will I have drains, and for how long?
  6. What activity limits will I have, and who can review me at home?
Red flags when comparing hospitals
  • Offering a thigh lift to someone who is still losing weight without discussing this.
  • No blood clot prevention plan.
  • No discussion of wound healing problems around the groin.
  • Hiding the length and placement of the scar.

Questions about Thigh Lift abroad

Which country is cheapest for Thigh Lift?

The lowest typical hospital prices are in India ($7,120), Thailand ($7,918), Turkey ($9,683), out of 9 countries we compare.

How long will I stay in hospital for Thigh Lift?

Most patients spend about 1 nights in hospital. Full recovery takes about 28 days; your surgeon will tell you when you are fit to fly home.

Will the scars be visible?

Scars are placed in the groin crease or along the inner thigh and can be long. They fade with time but remain visible in some clothing.

Can wounds open after a thigh lift?

Yes, mild wound separation near the groin occurs in some patients and usually heals with dressings. Avoiding smoking and strain lowers the risk.

When can I walk normally?

Short steps are encouraged early, and many people walk fairly normally in two to three weeks, with exercise limits for about six weeks.

Is a thigh lift covered by liposuction alone?

Liposuction suits firm skin with fat. If skin hangs loosely, it usually needs removal, which is why a lift is advised.
