About Robotic Myomectomy

The surgeon controls robotic arms through small abdominal cuts, opens the womb wall over each fibroid, removes it, and repairs the muscle in layers. The robot's wristed instruments and 3D view can make suturing easier, especially with larger or deeper fibroids. Very large or numerous fibroids may still need an open operation.

Bleeding and pressure symptoms generally improve and many women go on to conceive. Fibroids can regrow. Outcomes depend on the fibroids' number, size and position, the strength of the uterine repair, and the surgeon's robotic experience. Delivery by caesarean may be advised if the cavity was entered.

Plan for two nights in hospital and about four weeks before normal activity. Bring MRI or ultrasound reports. Ask how long to wait before trying to conceive, and arrange follow-up with your own gynaecologist and early pregnancy care if you conceive.

Usually a good fit if

  • Fibroids causing heavy bleeding, pelvic pressure or pain, or affecting fertility.
  • A woman who wants to keep her womb, particularly for future pregnancy.
  • Several or deeper fibroids where precise suturing of the womb is helpful.
  • Fibroids small to medium in size, suitable for a keyhole approach.

May need to wait if

  • Very large or numerous fibroids, where open surgery may be safer.
  • Suspected cancer of the womb muscle, since cutting the specimen into pieces could spread it.
  • Pregnancy, active pelvic infection or untreated severe anaemia.
  • Heart or lung disease that makes anaesthesia or gas inflation risky until optimised.
How to prepare
  1. Have a pelvic MRI or ultrasound to map the number, size and position of fibroids, and bring reports.
  2. Ask whether hormone treatment is advised beforehand to shrink fibroids or correct anaemia, and follow only your doctor's instructions.
  3. Have a blood count and iron treatment if needed, and ask the team about blood availability.
  4. Ask your doctor about blood thinners and aspirin, and follow only the instructions you are given.
  5. Fast as instructed, and discuss travel timing and when you may try to conceive.
Questions to ask your surgeon
  1. Is robotic myomectomy better than standard keyhole or open surgery for my fibroids?
  2. How will the fibroids be removed, and will you use a containment bag?
  3. How many robotic myomectomies do you perform every year, and what is your conversion rate?
  4. How will you repair the womb, and will I need a caesarean later?
  5. When can I try to conceive?
  6. How will you screen for a possible cancer beforehand?
Red flags when comparing hospitals
  • Uncontained morcellation without discussing the risk of spreading an unsuspected cancer.
  • No MRI or ultrasound mapping before surgery.
  • Robotic surgery promoted without explaining why it suits your fibroids.
  • No guidance on womb-scar healing and delivery planning.

Questions about Robotic Myomectomy abroad

Which country is cheapest for Robotic Myomectomy?

The lowest typical hospital prices are in India ($10,558), Thailand ($13,523), Turkey ($15,180), out of 9 countries we compare.

How long will I stay in hospital for Robotic Myomectomy?

Most patients spend about 2 nights in hospital. Full recovery takes about 28 days; your surgeon will tell you when you are fit to fly home.

Does the robot make a difference?

It gives a 3D view and flexible instruments that can help with stitching the womb. Results depend mostly on surgeon experience and fibroid features.

Can fibroids return?

New fibroids can appear over time, especially in younger women or after surgery for many fibroids.

When can I try to get pregnant?

Many surgeons advise waiting around 3 to 6 months for the womb scar to heal, depending on the depth of fibroids.

Will I need a caesarean?

Possibly, if fibroids were deep or the cavity was opened. Your surgeon will document this in your operation notes.
