About Microneedling RF (Morpheus8)

After numbing cream is applied, a handheld device pushes fine needles into the skin and delivers radiofrequency energy at a chosen depth. The heat stimulates collagen remodelling in the deeper layers while the needle channels trigger repair. Sessions take under an hour, and a series of treatments, often three, spaced several weeks apart is commonly advised.

Skin usually looks firmer and smoother gradually over two to three months as new collagen forms. The change is modest compared with a facelift, and it depends on the number of sessions, energy settings, skin type and age. Deeper scars or heavy sagging may need other treatments, and pigmentation risk is higher in darker skin tones.

Redness and swelling last a few days and the skin may feel rough as it recovers. If you need several sessions, check whether the visits can be fitted into one stay or spread across trips. Avoid sun, acids and retinoids as advised, and bring sunscreen and a gentle moisturiser.

Usually a good fit if

  • You want to tighten mild to moderate skin laxity on the face or neck without surgery.
  • You have acne scars, enlarged pores or uneven texture.
  • You can accept downtime of a few days of redness and a course of sessions.
  • Your skin is in good general health.

May need to wait if

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Active skin infection, cold sore or acne flare in the treatment area.
  • Recent isotretinoin use, unless your doctor confirms it is safe.
  • A pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, or a tendency to keloid scarring.
How to prepare
  1. Tell your doctor about isotretinoin use, cold sores, keloid scarring, pacemakers or metal implants, and any pregnancy.
  2. Avoid sun exposure and tanning before treatment, and stop retinoids and exfoliating acids if your clinician asks.
  3. If you have a history of cold sores, ask about antiviral medicine beforehand.
  4. Come with clean skin and no make-up, and bring a gentle cleanser and SPF 50 for afterwards.
  5. Plan sessions so you are not travelling long distances in direct sun straight after treatment.
Questions to ask your surgeon
  1. Is my skin laxity suited to this, or would a lift or a thread lift achieve more?
  2. What needle depths and energy settings will you use, and why?
  3. How many sessions will I need and how far apart?
  4. Are there extra precautions for my skin tone to reduce the risk of pigmentation changes?
  5. What aftercare do you advise, and when can I wear make-up and sunscreen?
  6. What can be done if I have a reaction when I am back home?
Red flags when comparing hospitals
  • Claims that it replicates a surgical facelift.
  • Treating darker skin tones without discussing the risk of pigmentation changes.
  • No consultation, skin assessment or medical history before treatment.
  • A device that cannot be identified by brand, or an unqualified operator.

Questions about Microneedling RF (Morpheus8) abroad

Which country is cheapest for Microneedling RF (Morpheus8)?

The lowest typical hospital prices are in India ($1,455), Thailand ($1,833), Turkey ($2,165), out of 9 countries we compare.

Does it hurt?

Numbing cream makes most settings tolerable, though deeper areas can feel warm and prickly. Your provider can adjust settings or add anaesthetic injections.

How many sessions do I need?

Most people have a course of two to three treatments about four to six weeks apart, depending on the problem and device. Your provider will tailor this.

Is it safe for darker skin?

Radiofrequency microneedling delivers heat deep below the surface, which makes it a common choice for darker skin, but the risk of pigment change is not zero. Ask for an experienced operator and a patch discussion.

How long do results last?

Collagen changes build over weeks to months and can last a year or more, but ageing continues. Maintenance sessions are sometimes advised.
