À propos de déformation nasale / bosse dorsale

Ce qu'il faut savoir

People notice a bump on the bridge, a crooked line, a drooping tip, or difficulty breathing through one side. Diagnosis is by examination of the nose inside and out, with photographs to plan changes. A deviated septum or enlarged turbinates are often behind blockage, whereas a hump is a matter of shape.

No treatment is needed unless the person is bothered by appearance or breathing. Blockage from a deviated septum is treated with septoplasty, often with turbinate reduction, while shape changes such as removing a dorsal hump are done by rhinoplasty. The two can be combined. Surgery is considered once the nose has finished growing. Patients sometimes travel abroad for rhinoplasty from surgeons they have researched.

Bilan avant le départ

Examens à déjà réalisés

  • Photographs of your nose from front, side and above, plus earlier photographs showing how it looked before any injury.
  • A record of any nasal injury, previous surgery or fillers, with dates.
  • An examination report of the septum and turbinates, with a nasal endoscopy or CT if breathing problems are present.
  • A list of nasal sprays and allergy treatments and your response to them.
  • Your medical history, including bleeding problems and medicines such as aspirin.

Deuxième avis

Quand obtenir un second regard

  • You have had a previous rhinoplasty and are unhappy with the result or breathing.
  • Surgery is proposed for appearance but you also have significant nasal blockage.
  • The surgeon's plan to reduce the hump would also weaken the nose or narrow the airway.
  • You are under 18 or your nose may still be growing.

Questions à poser

  1. What exactly would change in my nose, and can you show it on my photographs?
  2. Is my breathing problem from the septum, the turbinates or the nose shape?
  3. How can the airway be preserved or improved during reshaping?
  4. What are the risks, including revision surgery and persistent swelling?
  5. How long will swelling take to settle and when will I see the final result?
  6. Which is more suitable for me: open or closed technique?

Perspectives

Pronostic réaliste

Most people are satisfied with a carefully planned rhinoplasty, but the final shape may take up to a year to settle. Revision surgery is needed in a minority of patients. Outcome depends on skin thickness, the starting anatomy, realistic expectations and the surgeon's experience. When the septum is deviated, correcting it usually improves breathing noticeably.

Bilan diagnostique

04 · FAQ

Questions fréquentes sur déformation nasale / bosse dorsale

Will rhinoplasty improve my breathing?

It can, when the surgery also corrects the septum or narrow valve areas. Cosmetic reshaping alone does not guarantee better breathing and can sometimes narrow the airway.

How long until I see the final result?

Most swelling settles within a few months, but fine swelling and tip refinement can continue for up to a year, longer in thick skin or revision cases.

Is revision surgery common?

A minority of patients need a revision, and rates are higher in complex or thick-skinned noses. Revision is generally delayed for about a year.

What is recovery like?

Expect a splint for about a week, bruising for one to two weeks, and avoidance of contact sports and glasses resting on the nose for several weeks.

Clinical context

Working up déformation nasale / bosse dorsale properly

A condition like déformation nasale / bosse dorsale is rarely well-served by jumping straight to treatment shopping. The sequence below is what a chirurgie esthétique specialist would expect to see completed — and the absence of any step is the right cue to delay travel decisions.

Diagnostic workup, in sequence

  1. First-line clinical assessment

History, physical exam, and risk-factor review by a senior generalist or chirurgie esthétique specialist. Symptoms list, family history, prior workup notes, and current medication list should travel with the patient.

  2. Standard imaging + labs

Baseline blood work, condition-specific imaging (ultrasound / X-ray / MRI / CT — depending on indication), and ECG / pulmonary function as relevant. Bring digital copies of any prior imaging — saves repeat scans and the cost that goes with them.

  3. Specialist diagnostic workup

Procedure-specific tests — biopsy, cardiac catheterisation, endoscopy, or genetic / molecular profiling depending on the suspected diagnosis. Done at the centre that will treat, ideally, so results integrate cleanly into the treatment plan.

  4. Multidisciplinary review (where indicated)

Cancer, complex cardiac, transplant, and rare-disease cases should be reviewed by a multidisciplinary panel — surgical, medical, imaging, and pathology — before any treatment commits. Single-discipline plans for complex disease are a quality red flag.

When to escalate to specialist review

  • New, persistent, or worsening symptoms beyond the usual pattern — particularly anything that disrupts work, sleep, or daily function for >2 weeks.
  • Symptoms accompanied by red-flag features (unintentional weight loss, night sweats, bleeding, severe pain, neurological signs).
  • Any "this feels different" instinct — especially with recurrent or chronic conditions where you know your baseline well.
  • A second-opinion misalignment with your current care plan — when two qualified clinicians disagree, the case warrants a third review before committing.

Before you book international travel

  • Confirm your specific diagnosis is fully worked up before you commit to a treatment plan abroad. Travelling for the workup is fine; travelling for treatment without the workup done is not.
  • Get your case reviewed remotely by the destination centre's team before you book flights — credible international patient programs review imaging + reports before they confirm the surgical plan.
  • Bring a digital + physical copy of your full medical record: imaging on USB drive in DICOM format, labs in PDF, current medication list with dosages, allergies, and any prior surgical reports.
  • Plan for the post-op rehabilitation phase before you fly — the surgery itself is rarely the bottleneck.
  • Confirm that follow-up imaging and any necessary in-person reviews can be done at home — a treatment plan that requires repeat international trips is more burdensome (and more expensive) than the headline procedure.
