About Liposuction (VASER / 360)
VASER liposuction uses ultrasound energy to loosen fat before it is removed, allowing finer contouring of stubborn areas. It is meant for adults close to a stable weight with reasonably firm skin.
Fat is first softened with a fluid containing dilute local anaesthetic, then a VASER probe breaks it away from surrounding tissue before thin cannulas draw it out. The 360 approach treats the abdomen, flanks and back together so the waist is shaped as a whole. Traditional suction-assisted or power-assisted liposuction are the main alternatives.
Usually a good fit if
- Your weight is stable and within about 30% of your ideal, with localised fat that diet and exercise have not shifted.
- Your skin has reasonable elasticity, so it can tighten over the treated area.
- You are in good general health and are a non-smoker or can stop beforehand.
- You want contour improvement and understand the result is not weight loss.
May need to wait if
- Significant loose skin, which may need a tummy tuck instead of, or as well as, liposuction.
- Uncontrolled diabetes, heart disease or a clotting disorder until your doctors clear you.
- Pregnancy, or planning pregnancy soon.
- Unrealistic expectations, such as hoping to lose large amounts of weight.
How to prepare
- Reach a stable weight before travelling; liposuction is for contouring, not weight loss.
- Review blood thinners, anti-inflammatories, hormonal treatments and supplements with your doctor, who will tell you if any should change.
- Have blood tests and an ECG if your surgeon requests them, particularly before general anaesthesia.
- Buy two compression garments in advance if the clinic does not supply them, and plan someone to help you for the first days.
- Plan to stay near the clinic for the first week and ask about fitness to fly before booking your return.
Questions to ask your surgeon
- Is VASER the best option for my body, or would standard suction-assisted liposuction work as well?
- What volume of fat do you expect to remove, and is that within safe limits for a single session?
- Will you treat the areas in one session, and what is the plan if I need touch-ups?
- Who administers the anaesthesia, and how will my vital signs and fluids be monitored?
- How long should I wear the compression garment, and when can I have lymphatic massage?
- Who do I contact at home if I have swelling, fluid or skin problems after I fly?
Red flags when comparing hospitals
- A promise to remove very large volumes of fat in one sitting, well beyond accepted safe limits.
- No anaesthetist present, or sedation given by the operating surgeon alone.
- Reluctance to explain the technique, the areas planned and the aftercare in writing.
- Before-and-after photos that are not of the surgeon's own patients.

How long does a medical visa for United Arab Emirates take?
Medical Visa or Visit Visa: processing takes about 3 days and the visa is valid for 90 days. We help with the hospital invitation letter.
What is the difference between VASER and ordinary liposuction?
VASER first loosens fat with ultrasound, which can make removal gentler and allow finer contouring, especially for definition around the abdomen. Both methods remove fat cells permanently from the treated area. Your surgeon should explain why they prefer one technique for your body.
Will the fat come back?
The fat cells removed do not regrow, but remaining cells can enlarge if you gain weight. Keeping a stable weight keeps the improvement, and gains may show in untreated areas.
Will I have loose skin afterwards?
Skin generally retracts to some degree, depending on age, genetics and elasticity. If your skin is very loose, your surgeon may suggest a skin-removal procedure instead.
When can I fly home?
Flying soon after surgery raises the risk of blood clots and swelling. Many surgeons advise waiting several days to a week; your surgeon will confirm for your case.
