About Chin Augmentation

Chin augmentation improves a small or receding chin using an implant or by moving the chin bone (genioplasty). It is for people who want better facial balance between the nose, lips and jaw.

An implant, usually silicone, is slipped through a small cut inside the mouth or under the chin and placed against the bone. In a sliding genioplasty, the surgeon cuts the chin bone and moves it forward before fixing it with plates. Local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia may be used.

Usually a good fit if

  • Small or receding chin giving a weak profile.
  • Wish for better facial balance, e.g. alongside rhinoplasty.
  • Good general health and realistic expectations.

May need to wait if

  • Active infection in the mouth, jaw or skin.
  • Bite or jaw problems that need orthodontic or jaw surgery instead.
  • Unrealistic expectations or body-image concerns needing review.
How to prepare
  1. Bring side-profile photos and discuss the amount of projection you want; the surgeon should assess your bite and jaw.
  2. Expect a dental or X-ray check if a bone procedure (genioplasty) is planned.
  3. Review blood thinners and supplements with your doctor; change nothing without their instruction.
  4. Treat any dental or gum infection beforehand if the incision is inside the mouth.
  5. Plan soft foods and a few days of reduced talking and activity.
Questions to ask your surgeon
  1. Is an implant or sliding genioplasty better for my chin?
  2. Which implant material, size and incision do you plan?
  3. What are the risks of numbness, bone erosion or infection?
  4. How many chin augmentations do you perform each year?
  5. Will my bite or lip position be affected?
  6. How can the implant be removed or adjusted later?
Red flags when comparing hospitals
  • Implant size chosen without side-profile assessment.
  • No discussion of genioplasty when the chin is very small.
  • Fillers sold as a permanent chin result.
  • No plan for removal or revision.

Questions about Chin Augmentation in India

How much does Chin Augmentation cost in India in 2026?

Between $2,300 and $5,800 at most hospitals, with a typical price of $4,000. This is based on 8 hospital prices in India in our database. Your final price depends on the hospital, room type and implant; we send written quotes that list what is included.

Is Chin Augmentation cheaper in India than in other countries?

India ranks 1 of 9 destinations we compare for this procedure. The lowest typical price is in India at about $3,990.

How long does a medical visa for India take?

Medical Visa (e-Medical available): processing takes about 4 days and the visa is valid for 60 days. We help with the hospital invitation letter.

Implant or bone surgery?

Implants are simpler and reversible. Sliding genioplasty moves your own bone and suits larger changes or very small chins.

Will I lose feeling in my chin?

Temporary numbness of the lower lip and chin is common and usually settles, though rarely it persists.

Can I use fillers instead?

Fillers give a temporary change and can help you preview a result, but implants and bone surgery are longer lasting.
