DVT prophylaxis
Measures to prevent deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in leg veins) after surgery.
DVT prophylaxis includes early ambulation, pneumatic compression, and pharmacologic agents (heparin, DOACs). The risk is highest in major orthopedic, abdominal, and pelvic surgery.
What this means for you: DVT prophylaxis often continues for 2-6 weeks after discharge. Don't stop it because you're flying — long flights are themselves a thrombosis risk.
What a term means for you depends on your own reports. Ask your treating doctor, or send your reports for a free review.
