Wound care
The post-operative management of surgical wounds to prevent infection and promote healing.
Wound care includes dressing changes, infection monitoring, suture/staple removal, and (for some incisions) compression or splinting. Each surgery has specific protocols.
What this means for you: wound care instructions should be in writing and demonstrated before discharge. Photographs of the wound at discharge are helpful for tracking healing.
What a term means for you depends on your own reports. Ask your treating doctor, or send your reports for a free review.
