Omuz Protezi (Anatomik / Ters) hakkında
Shoulder replacement resurfaces or replaces the damaged ball and socket of the shoulder with implants, using an anatomic or a reverse design. It is for adults with severe arthritis or fractures causing pain and loss of function.
In an anatomic replacement a metal ball and plastic socket mimic the natural joint, which depends on a working rotator cuff. In a reverse replacement the ball and socket are swapped so the deltoid muscle can power the arm when the cuff is torn. Your surgeon chooses based on the cuff, the bone and your diagnosis. Surgery usually involves general anaesthesia plus a nerve block.

- Shoulder arthritis with night pain and loss of movement despite physiotherapy and injections.
- Cuff tear arthropathy or a non-functioning cuff, in which a reverse implant is usually chosen.
- Complex fractures of the upper arm bone, particularly in older adults.
- Avascular necrosis or failed previous surgery.
Şu durumlarda beklemeniz gerekebilir
- Active infection in or near the shoulder.
- Paralysis of the deltoid or major nerve damage that would prevent the replacement from working.
- Uncontrolled medical conditions that need optimisation first.
- Expectation of returning to heavy overhead lifting or contact sport.
Nasıl hazırlanılır
- Bring shoulder X-rays, CT or MRI; the state of the rotator cuff decides which type of implant is used.
- Ask your doctor about blood thinners, steroids and anti-inflammatories to review before surgery.
- Complete routine blood tests and an anaesthetic review; treat dental, skin or urinary infection first.
- Arrange a recliner for sleeping and help at home, since you will use the arm very little for weeks.
- Discuss travel plans and when you can fly with your surgeon.
