Do I need a bone graft before implants?
Many patients with longstanding tooth loss have bone resorption that requires grafting before or during implant placement. The most common types: socket preservation (immediately after extraction); ridge augmentation (separate procedure 4–6 months before implants); sinus lift (for upper-back implants when sinus floor is too low).
CBCT imaging at the planning stage is what tells you whether grafting is needed. Quotes that don't include CBCT are missing this step.
When grafting is required, total treatment time extends from 4–6 months (without grafting) to 8–12 months (with). Plan accordingly.
