Multimodal analgesia
Pain management combining several drug classes to reduce opioid need and side effects.
Multimodal analgesia uses a combination of local anesthesia (regional blocks), NSAIDs, acetaminophen, gabapentinoids, and lower-dose opioids together. The combined effect controls pain better than any single drug, with fewer side effects.
What this means for you: this is now the standard of care at modern programs. Confirm regional or epidural blocks are part of the plan for major surgery.
