Hip replacement
Replacing a damaged hip joint with a prosthesis — most common approaches are posterior, direct anterior, and lateral.
Total hip arthroplasty replaces the femoral head and acetabulum with a metal stem and cup. Anterior approach (DAA) offers faster early recovery but has a steeper surgeon learning curve. Ceramic-on-polyethylene bearings are the current standard for young active patients. Revision rates at 10 years are 3-5% at tier-1 centres.
