O que dizem os pacientes de Ablação cardíaca (FA / TSV)
AFib for 6 years on rate-control meds, but episodes were getting more frequent. Memorial in Istanbul has a strong electrophysiology team. Dr. Yıldırım did pulmonary vein isolation under sedation. 4 hour procedure, overnight stay, discharged…
Sobre Ablação cardíaca (FA / TSV)
Thin catheters are passed through a vein in the groin up to the heart, and the doctor maps the electrical signals to find the source of the rhythm problem. Energy is then delivered, as radiofrequency heat or freezing cold, to create tiny scars that block the faulty signals. It is done under sedation or general anaesthesia and may take two to four hours.
Success depends on the type of rhythm problem. Supraventricular tachycardia is often cured, while atrial fibrillation may need more than one procedure and some people continue medicines. Outcomes depend on how long the rhythm has been present, heart size, other conditions and the operator's experience. A short period of irregular beats soon after is common.
Plan to stay for one to two nights and remain near the hospital for several days. Avoid heavy lifting for a week or so and watch the groin site. Bring your ECG and rhythm monitor records and medicine list, and arrange a cardiologist at home to review your rhythm and decide when to stop any tablets.
Geralmente indicado se
- Symptomatic atrial fibrillation or supraventricular tachycardia not controlled by medicines, or when medicines are not wanted.
- Documented abnormal rhythm on ECG or monitoring.
- Recurrent fast heartbeat with palpitations, breathlessness or dizziness.
- Suitable heart structure on echocardiography.
Pode ser necessário esperar se
- Blood clots in the heart, or inability to take blood thinners.
- Severe uncorrected conditions such as active infection, uncontrolled thyroid disease or advanced heart failure not optimised.
- Very large left atrium or long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation with low chance of success.
- Pregnancy, because of radiation exposure.
Como se preparar
- Have an ECG, rhythm monitoring, echocardiogram and, for atrial fibrillation, a CT or transoesophageal echo to check for clots.
- Continue blood thinners exactly as your cardiologist instructs, since stroke prevention is essential before and after ablation.
- Review antiarrhythmic and other heart medicines with your doctor, who will tell you what to adjust.
- Fast for the hours the team specifies, and arrange for someone to help at home.
- Bring previous ECGs, Holter monitors and medication lists.
Perguntas para fazer ao seu cirurgião
- What type of energy will you use, and why for my rhythm?
- How many ablations like mine do you perform each year?
- What is the chance I will need a repeat procedure?
- Will I stay on blood thinners and heart-rhythm medicines afterwards?
- How do you check for complications such as bleeding or damage to the oesophagus?
- What rhythm monitoring can I do at home?
Sinais de alerta ao comparar hospitais
- No work-up for clots before atrial fibrillation ablation.
- Promises that ablation guarantees a permanent cure.
- The lab lacks 3D mapping or experienced electrophysiologists.
- No cardiac surgery or emergency cover on site.
- No plan for blood thinners and rhythm follow-up.
