BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant)
Replacing damaged or diseased bone marrow with healthy hematopoietic stem cells — used for leukemia, lymphoma, aplastic anemia.
Bone marrow transplant (BMT), more precisely called hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT), replaces the patient's bone marrow after high-dose chemotherapy. Autologous BMT uses the patient's own stem cells; allogeneic uses a matched donor (sibling or unrelated). Indications: leukemia, lymphoma, aplastic anemia, multiple myeloma, sickle cell, thalassemia, some inherited metabolic disorders.
