Spinal Disk Herniasyonu

Spinal disc herniation occurs when the soft centre of a disc pushes through its outer ring and presses on a nerve. It causes leg or arm pain, numbness or weakness, and mostly affects adults of working age.

spinal disk herniasyonu hakkında

Bilinmesi gerekenler

In the lower back it causes sciatica, pain shooting below the knee, and in the neck pain spreading into the arm. Tingling, numbness and weakness may follow. Diagnosis is by examination, with MRI used if symptoms last beyond six weeks or severe. Loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness around the genitals, is an emergency needing immediate care.

Most herniations improve within weeks to months with staying active, painkillers and physiotherapy. Nerve root injections can ease pain. Surgery is for severe or worsening weakness, cauda equina symptoms, or pain not settling after about six to twelve weeks. Microdiscectomy, using a small incision and microscope, removes the fragment pressing on the nerve and gives quick relief of leg pain.

Yolculuk öncesi tetkikler

Önceden tamamlanmış olması gereken testler

  • MRI of the affected spine region, showing the level and side of the herniation and nerve compression.
  • A neurological examination record with muscle power, reflexes and sensation, and a note of any progression.
  • Records of physiotherapy, medicines and epidural or nerve root injections tried, with dates and response.
  • Bladder, bowel and saddle numbness history, since changes there are a surgical emergency.
  • X-rays and, if relevant, flexion-extension views to check spinal stability, plus blood thinner details.

İkinci görüş

Ne zaman ikinci görüş alınmalı

  • You have been advised to have surgery within weeks of onset and have not tried non-surgical care.
  • Fusion rather than a simple discectomy is being recommended for a first disc herniation.
  • Pain has persisted for more than three months despite good treatment.
  • Your symptoms do not match the MRI findings.

Doktorunuzla konuşurken

Sorulacak sorular

  1. Which nerve is affected and does the scan match my symptoms?
  2. How long should I expect to try non-surgical treatment?
  3. What are the signs that I need urgent surgery?
  4. Would microdiscectomy or endoscopic discectomy be appropriate, and do I need fusion?
  5. What is the chance of the disc herniating again?
  6. When can I return to work and exercise?

Prognoz

Gerçekçi prognoz

Most disc herniations improve over weeks to months with time, exercise and pain control, and many resorb on their own. Surgery gives faster leg pain relief in those with persistent or severe symptoms, with good outcomes in most cases, though some have recurrence at the same level. Weakness and bladder changes require prompt surgery.

  2. Önce yerel bir ortopedi uzmanına gidin

Evde yüz yüze klinik muayene — tek bir konsültasyon bile — düşük maliyetli ve destinasyon planını önemli ölçüde iyileştirir. Yanınıza alın: yazılı klinik değerlendirme, önerilen prosedür, cerrahi risk sınıfı ve varsa kontrendikasyonlar.

  3. Ücretsiz ikinci görüş için dosyayı bize gönderin

Tıbbi panelimizden iki cerrah değerlendirmeyi bağımsız olarak inceler. Ameliyat mı yapacaklarını, izleme mi alacaklarını, yoksa yönlendireceklerini mi söylerler — seyahate karşı tavsiyeleri bile olsa.

Will a herniated disc heal on its own?

Often yes. Most people improve within weeks to months and the disc material may shrink.

When is surgery urgent?

For loss of bladder or bowel control, saddle numbness or rapidly worsening leg weakness. Seek emergency care.

Can the disc herniate again?

Yes, a small proportion do, either after surgery or non-surgical recovery. Core strengthening helps.

Can I fly with a disc herniation?

Usually yes, with breaks to move around, though sitting can aggravate pain.

Clinical context

Working up spinal disk herniasyonu properly

A condition like spinal disk herniasyonu is rarely well-served by jumping straight to treatment shopping. The sequence below is what a ortopedi specialist would expect to see completed — and the absence of any step is the right cue to delay travel decisions.

Diagnostic workup, in sequence

  1. First-line clinical assessment

History, physical exam, and risk-factor review by a senior generalist or ortopedi specialist. Symptoms list, family history, prior workup notes, and current medication list should travel with the patient.

  2. Standard imaging + labs

Baseline blood work, condition-specific imaging (ultrasound / X-ray / MRI / CT — depending on indication), and ECG / pulmonary function as relevant. Bring digital copies of any prior imaging — saves repeat scans and the cost that goes with them.

  3. Specialist diagnostic workup

Procedure-specific tests — biopsy, cardiac catheterisation, endoscopy, or genetic / molecular profiling depending on the suspected diagnosis. Done at the centre that will treat, ideally, so results integrate cleanly into the treatment plan.

  4. Multidisciplinary review (where indicated)

Cancer, complex cardiac, transplant, and rare-disease cases should be reviewed by a multidisciplinary panel — surgical, medical, imaging, and pathology — before any treatment commits. Single-discipline plans for complex disease are a quality red flag.

When to escalate to specialist review

  • New, persistent, or worsening symptoms beyond the usual pattern — particularly anything that disrupts work, sleep, or daily function for >2 weeks.
  • Symptoms accompanied by red-flag features (unintentional weight loss, night sweats, bleeding, severe pain, neurological signs).
  • Any "this feels different" instinct — especially with recurrent or chronic conditions where you know your baseline well.
  • A second-opinion misalignment with your current care plan — when two qualified clinicians disagree, the case warrants a third review before committing.

Before you book international travel

  • Confirm your specific diagnosis is fully worked up before you commit to a treatment plan abroad. Travelling for the workup is fine; travelling for treatment without the workup done is not.
  • Get your case reviewed remotely by the destination centre's team before you book flights — credible international patient programs review imaging + reports before they confirm the surgical plan.
  • Bring a digital + physical copy of your full medical record: imaging on USB drive in DICOM format, labs in PDF, current medication list with dosages, allergies, and any prior surgical reports.
  • Plan for the post-op rehabilitation phase before you fly — the surgery itself is rarely the bottleneck.
  • Confirm that follow-up imaging and any necessary in-person reviews can be done at home — a treatment plan that requires repeat international trips is more burdensome (and more expensive) than the headline procedure.
