Asymptomatic Fibroids (Surveillance)

Asymptomatic fibroids are benign muscle growths in the womb that cause no heavy bleeding, pain or pressure. They are very common and are often found by chance during a scan.

asymptomatic fibroids (surveillance) hakkında

Bilinmesi gerekenler

By definition there are no symptoms, so the diagnosis is made on pelvic examination or ultrasound done for another reason. MRI is used only if the picture is unclear. Fibroids are not cancerous, and they commonly shrink after the menopause, though some grow slowly in the meantime.

Fibroids that cause no symptoms generally need no treatment, only occasional review, and a new scan if symptoms appear or the fibroid seems to grow quickly. Treatment is considered if heavy bleeding, pain, pressure or fertility problems develop, and then includes medicine, embolisation, myomectomy or hysterectomy. Treatment abroad is not needed for fibroids that cause no symptoms.

Yolculuk öncesi tetkikler

Önceden tamamlanmış olması gereken testler

  • Pelvic ultrasound or MRI report listing the number, size and position of the fibroids.
  • Previous scans so that growth over time can be compared.
  • Blood count and ferritin, to confirm there is no hidden anaemia from heavy periods.
  • Cervical screening status and menstrual history, confirming that bleeding is not heavy.
  • Your plans for pregnancy, as fibroids affecting the cavity may matter for fertility.

İkinci görüş

Ne zaman ikinci görüş alınmalı

  • You are advised to have surgery or embolisation although you have no symptoms.
  • A fibroid is growing quickly, particularly after menopause, which needs further assessment.
  • You are planning pregnancy and a fibroid is distorting the womb cavity.
  • Symptoms such as heavy bleeding, pressure or pain have developed since the last scan.

Doktorunuzla konuşurken

Sorulacak sorular

  1. Do these fibroids need any treatment at all?
  2. How often should I have a scan to monitor them?
  3. Where are they, and do they affect fertility or pregnancy?
  4. Which symptoms should prompt me to come back sooner?
  5. Could the growth be something other than a fibroid?
  6. What would be the first treatment if symptoms start?

Prognoz

Gerçekçi prognoz

Fibroids that cause no symptoms are very common and generally harmless, and most can be left alone with occasional review. Many shrink after menopause. Treatment is considered if they cause heavy bleeding, pain, pressure, or fertility problems. Rapid growth is uncommon but should be investigated. Size, number and position determine whether treatment will ever be needed.

  2. Önce yerel bir jinekoloji uzmanına gidin

Evde yüz yüze klinik muayene — tek bir konsültasyon bile — düşük maliyetli ve destinasyon planını önemli ölçüde iyileştirir. Yanınıza alın: yazılı klinik değerlendirme, önerilen prosedür, cerrahi risk sınıfı ve varsa kontrendikasyonlar.

  3. Ücretsiz ikinci görüş için dosyayı bize gönderin

Tıbbi panelimizden iki cerrah değerlendirmeyi bağımsız olarak inceler. Ameliyat mı yapacaklarını, izleme mi alacaklarını, yoksa yönlendireceklerini mi söylerler — seyahate karşı tavsiyeleri bile olsa.

Do I need to treat fibroids that cause no symptoms?

Usually not. They are monitored if you have no symptoms, and treated only if problems develop or they affect fertility.

Will fibroids turn cancerous?

Almost never. Cancerous change in a fibroid is very rare, but rapid growth or post-menopausal growth deserves assessment.

Do fibroids affect pregnancy?

Most do not, though large fibroids or those in the cavity can affect fertility or cause complications. Your scan results guide advice.

Clinical context

Working up asymptomatic fibroids (surveillance) properly

A condition like asymptomatic fibroids (surveillance) is rarely well-served by jumping straight to treatment shopping. The sequence below is what a jinekoloji specialist would expect to see completed — and the absence of any step is the right cue to delay travel decisions.

Diagnostic workup, in sequence

  1. First-line clinical assessment

History, physical exam, and risk-factor review by a senior generalist or jinekoloji specialist. Symptoms list, family history, prior workup notes, and current medication list should travel with the patient.

  2. Standard imaging + labs

Baseline blood work, condition-specific imaging (ultrasound / X-ray / MRI / CT — depending on indication), and ECG / pulmonary function as relevant. Bring digital copies of any prior imaging — saves repeat scans and the cost that goes with them.

  3. Specialist diagnostic workup

Procedure-specific tests — biopsy, cardiac catheterisation, endoscopy, or genetic / molecular profiling depending on the suspected diagnosis. Done at the centre that will treat, ideally, so results integrate cleanly into the treatment plan.

  4. Multidisciplinary review (where indicated)

Cancer, complex cardiac, transplant, and rare-disease cases should be reviewed by a multidisciplinary panel — surgical, medical, imaging, and pathology — before any treatment commits. Single-discipline plans for complex disease are a quality red flag.

When to escalate to specialist review

  • New, persistent, or worsening symptoms beyond the usual pattern — particularly anything that disrupts work, sleep, or daily function for >2 weeks.
  • Symptoms accompanied by red-flag features (unintentional weight loss, night sweats, bleeding, severe pain, neurological signs).
  • Any "this feels different" instinct — especially with recurrent or chronic conditions where you know your baseline well.
  • A second-opinion misalignment with your current care plan — when two qualified clinicians disagree, the case warrants a third review before committing.

Before you book international travel

  • Confirm your specific diagnosis is fully worked up before you commit to a treatment plan abroad. Travelling for the workup is fine; travelling for treatment without the workup done is not.
  • Get your case reviewed remotely by the destination centre's team before you book flights — credible international patient programs review imaging + reports before they confirm the surgical plan.
  • Bring a digital + physical copy of your full medical record: imaging on USB drive in DICOM format, labs in PDF, current medication list with dosages, allergies, and any prior surgical reports.
  • Plan for the post-op rehabilitation phase before you fly — the surgery itself is rarely the bottleneck.
  • Confirm that follow-up imaging and any necessary in-person reviews can be done at home — a treatment plan that requires repeat international trips is more burdensome (and more expensive) than the headline procedure.
