Veneers vs crowns — what's the difference?
Veneers are thin (0.3–0.7mm) ceramic shells bonded to the front surface of teeth. They're conservative — minimal tooth structure removed — and used for cosmetic improvement.
Crowns cover the entire tooth and remove more structure (1–2mm of enamel). They're used when the underlying tooth is structurally compromised (large fillings, root canal, fracture).
For cosmetic-only improvement on healthy teeth, veneers are the right choice. For structurally compromised teeth, crowns. The right answer for your specific tooth depends on its condition.
Reputable international dental clinics will recommend the conservative option (veneers) when appropriate. Clinics that always default to full-mouth crown rehabilitation, regardless of tooth condition, are over-treating.
