Seromas form when lymphatic fluid collects in surgical dead space. They're common after mastectomy, abdominal surgery, and large tissue dissections. Most resolve spontaneously; persistent ones may need aspiration.
What this means for you: seromas are usually not dangerous but can prolong recovery. Compression garments and drains help prevent them.
