Most destinations allow 1-2 attendants on visas tied to the patient's medical visa. Documentation typically requires hospital invitation referencing the attendant.
What this means for you: arrange the attendant visa simultaneously with the patient visa. Don't assume tourist visa is fine for the attendant.
